About Free

I hope you didn’t really think I was going to tell you about my real life.

Anyway, here’s a little bit about my internet life as a gamer.

I’ve been playing first person shooters online since Quake was released.

I played quake online right up until Quake 3 was released, at which time I made the switch to that. I mostly played Q3 Rocket Arena once that mod was released.

I skipped right past Quake 2 because it was so shit. Unless you like waiting 20 minutes for one of your rockets to get across a large area.

I played RTCW for quite a while once that came out, and then moved on to RTCW: Enemy Territory.

I stuck with ET until Battlefield 1942 was released and knocked it up a notch by being invited to join a clan - 1st Infantry.

[1st] went on to win the first ladder season of BF1942 on GameArena aswell as the Oceanic League which netted us some prizes, aswell as a LAN event which earnt us some cash. In all of these things we were undefeated, until the second ladder season on GameArena when a lot of our players tired of the game and drifted off to other things. [1st disbanded at the end of the second ladder season on GA.

The legend of [1st] still lives on as one of the most respected and awed clans to play and BF game in Australia.

Several of us ‘Firsties’ have continued to play online together over the years in different games under different team names. There’s a good chance we’ll continue to do so.

At this stage - 2002 - I was also invited to become a GameOp at GameArena. A postion where you run ladders, babysit players and generally do community management stuff.

I’ve been doing that for four years now, for BF1942, BF:V, BF2 and BF2142. I also managed a couple of BF series competitions which were worth more than $80k in cash and prizes.

I had a one year stint in World of Warcraft which I enjoyed(along with my old [1st] buddies), but I’m glad to be out of it since it was eating up so much of my spare time.

I’ve recently started playing ET again in anticipation of the ET: Quake Wars release, since ET has the frenetic pace and much higher level of skill required than the BF series of games.

The rest is in the future, and yet to be written.
